Violin making
Violin making also has a small tradition in the Merk family.
Great-grandfather Josef Merk and his great-grandson Franz Zunterer are violin makers. Both learned their craft at the venerable Violin Making School in Mittenwald. Students from all over the world come here to learn a variety of trades.
Visit the modern Violin Making Museum, which features interesting special exhibits, located right behind the church along the picturesque Ballenhausgasse.
Or visit an event of the Mittenwalder Musiksommer, a series of concerts organized annually by the Mittenwald market association from May to October, and enjoy the sounds of these wonderful instruments in the proper setting.
